Theories of International Relations
This module introduces students to a range of theoretical frameworks in international relations, helping them critically analyze the complexities of the international system. By exploring classical, mainstream, and critical theories, students will gain a solid foundation for understanding the historical and contemporary dynamics of global politics, preparing them to connect theory to practice in solving real-world challenges.
International Security and Defence
This module delves into the critical issues of international security and defence, exploring the interplay between state and non-state actors, including regional organizations, NGOs, and private military companies. Students will examine contemporary security themes, equipping them to assess global security challenges and formulate innovative solutions grounded in both theory and practical insights.
Research Methods
This module equips students with the research skills essential for understanding and addressing global challenges. Covering quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches, students will explore the ethical principles of research, learn to critically analyze literature, and gain hands-on experience with data analysis tools. This practical grounding prepares students to conduct impactful research in international relations.
Ghana’s Foreign Policy
This module provides an in-depth exploration of Ghana’s foreign policy, examining its historical evolution, institutional frameworks, and contemporary dynamics. Students will analyze Ghana’s national interests, economic diplomacy, and regional and global relations, gaining a deeper understanding of how foreign policy connects to real-world governance and international relations.
Regionalism and Integration in Africa
This module examines the historical and contemporary attempts at African regionalism and integration. It explores the intersection of regionalism with peace, security, governance, and economic development. Students will critically analyze the challenges and opportunities of Africa’s unity efforts, preparing them to contribute to the continent’s political and economic transformation.
International Migration
This module investigates the causes, patterns, and implications of global migration, with a focus on its relationship to economic development, social change, and environmental issues. Through an exploration of theories and case studies, including the Asia-Pacific region, students will gain a nuanced understanding of migration’s complexities, preparing them to address global migration challenges with practical insights.
International Law
This module introduces the principles and challenges of public international law, covering areas such as state jurisdiction, the use of force, human rights, and international criminal law. Through case studies, treaties, and legal instruments, students will develop a practical understanding of how international law shapes global governance and impacts international relations.
Political Leadership
This module explores the role of leadership in modern politics, examining theories of leadership, the influence of charisma, and the psychological dimensions of political decision-making. Students will analyze contemporary leadership challenges, including corruption and conflict management, while gaining practical skills in data collection and leadership profiling to evaluate the effectiveness of political leaders.
Foreign Policy Analysis
This module examines the decision-making processes behind foreign policies in various countries. Using theoretical frameworks and case studies, students will analyze the goals, institutions, and cultural contexts of foreign policymaking, developing the skills to assess and influence foreign policy decisions in a rapidly changing global environment.
International Human Rights

International Economics
This module provides a practical understanding of the interconnected areas of trade, investment, and finance within the global economy. By applying theoretical frameworks to real-world economic issues and trends, students will be equipped to analyze and respond to the economic challenges that influence international relations.
Conflict and Conflict Resolution
This module explores the causes, dynamics, and resolution of violent conflicts. Students will examine global and local factors that contribute to conflict and develop practical approaches to managing and resolving disputes. Through case studies and expert insights, the module equips students with tools to address conflict in diverse political and cultural contexts.
Global Governance
This module introduces students to the structures, concepts, and debates of global governance, emphasizing the links between national and international politics. Students will critically examine economic, social, and political trends shaping the global system, preparing them to engage with and influence governance frameworks in a practical and informed way.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
● Holders of a good first degree of at least 2nd class lower division or its equivalent from a recognized institutions in the relevant areas
● Possess a minimum of 2 years’ work experience for applicants who have at least 2nd class lower division in a non-related area.
NB: All foreign qualifications and certificates will be subjected to GTEC’s assessment and approval.
